Bronopol is with the chemical name 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, also known as bromide, BNPD. The pure Bronopol is white to light yellow crystalline powder with a melting point of 120°C to 122°C. It is easily soluble in polar solvents such as water, ethanol and propylene glycol, but hardly soluble in non-polar solvents such as chloroform, acetone and benzene. It is easy to decompose when the pH is greater than 8 and high temperature, and will produce yellow under light, which is corrosive to aluminum. Bronopol is a broad-spectrum bactericide of bromonitro alcohol. It has high bactericidal activity, low concentration and a wide pH range. It has no irritation and no sensitization to human skin. Bronopol has its advantages:

Application:
1) Cosmetic bactericide:
Bronopol has an inhibitory effect on bacteria, molds, and yeasts, but has poor inhibitory activity on molds and yeasts. The use of paraben with paraben can enhance the inhibitory effect on molds and yeasts. Its recommended concentration in cosmetics is 0.02%. In cosmetics, it is mainly used as a preservative for medicated skin creams, medicated shampoos, baby baths and so on.
2) Water treatment bactericide:
Bronopol can be compounded with cationic polyquaternary ammonium salts and other compounds to form a new type of bactericide. Add it to industrial cooling water, pulp and paper manufacturing water treatment to improve the bactericidal effect. Completely prevent the formation of Klebsiella pneumoniae.
3) Petroleum industry fungicides:
Bronopol and surfactants are made into strips and blocks of solid fungicides, which can control the growth of microorganisms in oil well water, and can be dispersed and dissolved in water but not dissolved in oil, so it can enter the bottom of the petroleum system Kill bacteria in the water layer, thereby effectively inhibiting the corrosion of metal workpieces.
