Mold and algae are the two main factors that cause damage to the paint film. Contamination of mold is often inseparable from the contact of nutrient sources with the surface of the paint film. Especially in places with high humidity (such as bathroom, kitchen) or in places with poor ventilation and moisture, molds are more likely to reproduce. The growth of algae requires light and moist conditions. In addition, the pH and surface structure of the wall surface can also affect the growth of algae. It is a very common phenomenon that the surface of the wall surface mold and long algae, not only affect the appearance, but it will also directly damage the paint film on the wall.
In order to extend the life of the surface paint film and substrate, the most effective method is to use mold/algaecide agents to prevent the growth of mold and algae. For those surfaces that have grown on the mold/challenge, first mechanically remove surface mold spores and algae, and then treat the surface with a very active bactericide to fully infiltrate the paint film and substrate to kill the hyphae inside. Finally, it was recoated with a paint with anti-mildew/anti-algae properties.
For interior paints, only anti-mildew effects need to be considered. However, for exterior wall coatings, the dual effects of anti-mildew and anti-algae must be considered comprehensively. The following performance requirements are generally considered when selecting paint film preservatives:
1. Broad spectrum
2. Long-acting
3. Stable over a wide pH and temperature range
4. Low water solubility
5. Good oozing stability
6. Good material compatibility
7. Good compatibility with paint components
8. Does not change color
9. Low VOC and low halogen content
10. Highly cost effective
Common dry film anti-mildew/ ani-algae
The active ingredients of common dry film preservatives on the market today are carbendazim, dichlorobenzene dimethyl urine (diuron), octyl isothiazolinone (OIT), and Chloro-octylisothiazolinone (DCOIT) and so on.
Specific attention should be paid to the specific method when using dry film preservatives. The slurry-like solid particulate predispersion can be added directly to the paint formulation without grinding, and it cannot and no need to be diluted with water first. The amount of addition is sufficient as long as it is technically sufficient, and it is not necessary to add too much. The most accurate dosage can be determined based on the Mildew/Algae challenge test.
Our company introduced 3Q series of paint preservatives, its bactericidal effect is more broad-spectrum, high-efficiency, long-lasting, especially suitable for all kinds of latex paint, all kinds of water-based paints, water-based paints, polymer emulsions and other anti-corrosion sterilization, through a lot of evaluation The experimental and user's practical application proves that it has excellent anti-mildew effect on acrylic acid, polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene butyl ester and other copolymers, and is currently an ideal water-borne paint and coating can preservative.
