Application of 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT)

Isothiazolon compounds are a new class of excellent antimicrobial agents in the 1970s, 1,2-benzothiazoline-3-one (BIT) is being the most representative. It has high sterilization efficiency, broad spectrum of antibacterial species, superior safety performance, good water solubility, convenient use, reasonable price, etc.

1.Application of BIT in high molecular polymer emulsion

Polymeric polymer emulsions are usually aqueous latexes based on acrylates, butadiene, styrene, etc., and they are susceptible to microbial attack, chemical fractures, viscosity reduction, adhesion, and delamination. At the time of manufacture, transportation and storage of the emulsion, it spoils. Many internationally renowned large companies have chosen BIT as the bactericidal antiseptic in their synthetic emulsions and their products, which have significant antibacterial effects.

2.Application of BIT in Waterborne Architectural Coatings

Water-based architectural coatings are mostly composed of perishable macromolecular polymer emulsions, dispersants, defoamers, thickeners, and the like. They are a good source of nutrition for microorganisms. As long as the ambient temperature is appropriate, the microorganisms will multiply, causing the paint to degenerate and stink, so it is necessary to add bactericidal preservatives during the coating process. After the successful development of BIT, it has brought great convenience to the coating industry due to its unique and outstanding performance.

3.Application of BIT in Coated Paper Coatings

The coated paper coating is usually composed of styrene butadiene latex, casein, starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, etc. They are highly susceptible to bacterial and mold spoilage. In general, carbendazim triazine and other preservatives are added to the factory, but the effect is not good. The addition of BIT not only has a good anti-corrosion effect on coated paper, but also greatly improves the newly formulated coating on coated paper.

4.Application of BIT in oilfield water injection

Water flooding is a common measure to increase China's crude oil production. The injected water usually has different types of bacteria, in particular sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB). Corrosion products contaminate the oil layer and corrode equipment pipelines, seriously affecting oil production. In the past, quaternary ammonium salts have generally been used as preservatives, and antimicrobial agents have been produced due to the long-term use of single agents. After using BIT, it is not only effective but also used less. BIT is a kind of high-efficiency, low-toxicity, broad-spectrum and water-soluble new bactericidal antiseptic, especially its water-solubility, which embodies the advantages that traditional bactericidal agents can't match.
